Discussion:

Why me?

This is a query we hesitate to voice because it often surfaces when we're grappling with dissatisfaction in our circumstances.

Truth is, certain events prompt us to doubt ourselves, leaving us feeling unfortunate or weighed down by a sense of unfairness in the cards life has dealt us.

Sometimes, we may even feel that our challenges are greater than those of others, wondering if things might have turned out differently if luck had tilted more in our favor.

So, deep down, there's a sense that we need to be slightly more or less of something, a lingering feeling of inadequacy or not quite measuring up.

So we ask:

Why me?

Why do these things happen?

Now, we've started embracing the idea, pointing to the moments in our lives where things went wrong, as a way of reinforcing this belief.

…but are we truly unlucky?

This is the basis of today's conversation.

Accepting Our Nature

One of the most frequent sources of dissatisfaction is our own nature, some aspect of our appearance or abilities that feels inadequate.

At times, it’s something others have openly ridiculed us for, leaving us burdened with shame and carrying a heavy emotional load.

This can make us timid and withdrawn, retreating into our shell.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Many people are quick to criticize, magnifying your struggles and flaws while ignoring their own.

Yet, the reality is, no matter who we are or what we do, we all have our unique shortcomings, even if they’re not things that meet the eye.

Each person is aware of theirs, and they make us feel vulnerable, even if it's only in solitude.

So the fact that some can conceal theirs or handle them better doesn’t change this truth.

Ideally, what one person excels at is often another’s weakness, and it only takes a different arena to reveal this.

So we need to accept who and what we are as the first step to identifying what we can do and can excel in.

Afterwards, it becomes easier to develop ourselves until we're able to stand out.

This is a gradual process.

However, where this self love is absent, we shy away from the opportunities that can bring about self improvement because we feel undeserving, missing out on chances to become better versions of ourselves.

Seasons Of Life

Life unfolds in seasons, each with a unique purpose that molds us.

In times of bloom, we savor the joys, while in times of gloom, we build our character.

Our response to one season often shapes the next.

During dry spells, when everything seems stacked against us, it’s tempting to feel defeated or cursed.

Yet, these moments can pave the way for a season of wins if we persevere with the right mindset, refusing to give up.

Challenges offer us a chance to dig deep, stand out, and prove we’re worthy of our ambitions; because while everyone craves success, it's through our disciplined or careless actions, that we make that choice.

In our season of adversity, we must remember that it’s a natural phase, priming us for brighter days if we respond rightly.

This awareness is why we'd be better for it.

Truth is, pain can harden us or make us empathetic, a choice shaped by our perspective.

If we view struggles as bad luck, frustration takes hold; if we see them as training for resilience, we stay focused, learning from each moment.

Other times, our tough seasons stem from our own missteps.

As humans, our actions carry consequences, and occasionally, trouble arises from poor timing or toxic environments.

Which means that the best approach to managing risk and crises is to avoid places and behaviors likely to lead to unwanted outcomes.

Although, this doesn’t guarantee safety, it sure makes such events the exception rather than the norm.

Comparison - The Thief Of Joy

We may feel comfortable in our own skin until we begin measuring ourselves against others.

Comparison sets up a scenario where one thing is equal to, superior, or inferior to another, even when things can stand alone, offering the diversity that only uniqueness provides.

This is why it’s wiser to focus on ourselves and our own journey.

We don’t all begin at the same starting line, but regardless of where we stand, we’re equipped to move forward, reaching our goals through persistence and hard work.

This means that each step of the way, we should allow ourselves the grace to stumble, struggle, and grow stronger through it.

Most importantly, in these struggles, we should recognize that our challenges stem from inexperience or skill gaps, which improve with time, not from bad luck or an inherent inability to succeed.

Gratitude - Counting The Positives

If we're set on feeling unfortunate, we can always dwell on the setbacks we've encountered, overlooking the countless ways life has favored us.

Yet, embracing a grateful outlook reveals the everyday joys we've come to overlook and assume as ordinary.

Here, it helps to be specific, acknowledging each good thing that's blessed our path.

Oftentimes, our hunger for more blinds us to the truth that today was once the dream we chased yesterday.

Yet it's this awareness that gives us the belief that every other thing is only a matter of time.

Ultimately, gratitude fills us with joy and optimism, the ideal mindset to fuel our drive and unleash our full potential.

Why It Has To Be You

What doesn't break us builds us up, so when we find ourselves in tough spots, it’s usually because we have the strength to come through stronger.

When we do, we're better prepared to help others having walked in their shoes.

This means that we should light the way for them, becoming the support we wished for, in our darkest times.

This is how we give purpose to our pain.

In this, it's important to point out that just because we struggled and came out stronger, doesn't mean we should let others do the same, denying them a push, helping hand or any support we can grant to ease things for them.

Summary:

To believe that we're simply unlucky strips us of the power to shape our own destiny by seizing opportunities and stepping out courageously and persistently.

Luck finds us when nature is proud of our efforts.

Keep showing up until you change your fortunes.

Why not you?
