This House

...so that when time has passed we may look back at what we've done.

Introduction:

Welcome my friend,

Today I'm here in full celebration mode, cheering for the third year anniversary of this business brand.

In this week three years ago, I dedicated myself to actively resume writing after a five-year period away.

This time inspired by my purpose, which is to share every little light God has given me with others, one word at a time.

By doing so, slowly peeling away layers of my own darkness, as I try holding myself accountable to the words I write.

So that at last, I don't miss out on the benefits of these truths after pointing others to it.

God forbid!

It's on this note that I raise you this glass…

Here’s to love, light, and standing firmly on the side of the truth we’ve come to know.

Cheers to you as well, my friend!

This journey wouldn’t be the same without you in it.

Discussion:

The theme of our conversation today is “This House” which is the first part of the phrase “This house that I'm building”.

In this we're going to liken building our respective lives to building a house, looking to inspire a thought provoking interaction from a simple thing.

■ This House That I'm Building

Every building rises from once-empty land, shaped by careful development.

Similarly, every life starts in infancy, evolving as we learn to walk, talk, and undergo different phases of personal development.

Truth is, each of us is tasked with shaping our life, our personal haven, to create a space where we feel at ease and content.

So, imagine your life as an empty plot, waiting for you to shape it into a cherished place of beauty and peace where you’d love to dwell.

What kind of house would you want to build?

■ The Significance Of This Mindset Shift

A self-inflicted cage we often find ourselves sitting in is the fear of others' opinions of us.

When we want to start something new, especially if it's not popular, we fear how those around us would react to it.

Yet, would it matter if we're really building a house for ourselves?

The reality is that the folks we worry about are preoccupied with constructing their own lives using the resources they have, yet we hesitate to make full use of our own.

Perhaps, because we're ashamed of starting small, yet building a home is done brick by brick.

By not going after our desires, we miss out on the opportunities to fulfill our potential.

Likewise, once we realize we'll be the ones living in our home after the guests leave, we find the confidence to make brave choices for ourselves, not to impress others.

Truth is, family and friends can sometimes make us miss out on what we want most because we're unhealthily attached to them in a way that we think we have to live for them.

This isn't supposed to be so.

Here, parents are common culprits.

While it's important to guide your children in their life decisions, ensure you don't suppress their unique individuality in the process.

Allow them to build their house, expressing their own creativity and design.

Some parents selfishly push their children to pursue unfulfilled dreams of their own, ignoring the children's personal aspirations.

Remember, this house isn't yours to stay in.

■ The Building Plan

The understanding that we’re building our own home assigns us the duty to do the work required to mold it to our desired specifications.

Nobody will do it for us.

If we seek a fuller life, we must be prepared to do more, to be more, to grow, to enhance ourselves, and be ready to offer greater value.

This is how we develop our home.

Whether in business, career, or relationships, creating something meaningful demands deliberate effort.

It’s not something we can simply wish into existence.

That’s why we need a defined vision of the life we want to create, enabling us to adopt behaviors that align with that goal.

Once we have this clear direction we can focus solely on what we're building so that even if we look at others houses, we do so to draw some inspiration not copy or compare.

Examining Some Building Materials

On the toughest days, my passion for my work, the belief that it aligns with my purpose, and the patience to see it through have kept me going.

When pursuing our purpose, obstacles don’t breed discouragement or doubt; instead, they fuel perseverance and growth, motivating us to improve and overcome challenges rather than abandon our path.

As humans, making the decision between following our head or heart is a big struggle.

Yet, true peace comes when they both align.

This is what God's will about.

So that even if building this house doesn't feel easy, and the house isn't perfect, it feels wholesome; complete.

This is what fulfillment is about.

The Architect

A skilled architect doesn't merely sketch a house; they craft a masterpiece that harmonizes with the landscape and adapts to its environment.

God knows the stuff we're made of, so He guides us to places where we are most needed and can make the greatest impact.

This is how we serve society while earning a living for our efforts.

God has endowed each of us with unique talents and gifts, these are our personal tools to shape the life we desire; all we need to do is to tap into them.

Yet, this unfolds through a gradual process.

Through persistent effort, practice and learning, we continue to master our craft, so that when time has passed we can look back at what we've done.

This is how we honour God, bringing glory to His name; this is the true purpose of our creation.

Summary:

A one-story building collapsing creates a minor impact, but a skyscraper’s fall is a dramatic spectacle.

Likewise, rebuilding a one-story structure is far less costly than reconstructing a skyscraper.

In our humble beginnings, we readily seek God's blessings, but as success comes, we often forget Him, attributing our achievements solely to our own efforts.

It’ll be heartbreaking to see all we’ve built collapse like a house of cards due to our arrogant pride.

God forbid!

This strong foundation God has established has upheld us for these three years, and it is His will that we'll be here again next year.

Master Apprentice.
