Self Confidence: The Core Of Fulfillment
...only those who think they can, will.
Introduction:
Welcome my friend,
It's good to be starting off the month here with you, having such a conversation as this.
Our time together always offers us the opportunity to learn, reflect and perhaps begin to change aspects of us that no longer serve us; having become aware of them.
At the same time, it also allows us to bond, bound by how much we can relate to our struggles; as we word by word share a few ways we may yet overcome them.
This is the reason we hangout.
So that while we have the fun of enjoying each other's company, we also become better for it.
Afterall, it's what good friends do.
Which is why we do that too.
Happy New Month my friend!
Discussion:
Self confidence, as we most likely already know, is the backing of one's self to go on to achieve, accomplish, acquire, or even overcome something.
It's the self trust that “I can”.
Which means that it's what gives us the courage to go on to try, having already believed that we're going to succeed.
In the absence of this, we're going to lack the conviction to give our best in the process, easily giving up on the way because we don't think there's anything in it for us.
■ What Self Confidence Isn't
As much as it's very important for us to know what we are, we should also know what we're not.
Self confidence is the identification and awareness of our areas of strength and weaknesses backed by a deliberate decision to maximize or improve each one accordingly.
It's knowing where to fit in seamlessly rather than trying so hard to be accepted in circles, places or jobs we're not suited for.
To continue down the wrong path because we're too proud to adhere to good counsel isn't self trust.
■ The Relationship Between Self Confidence, Faith And Humility
As believers the source of our self confidence is our faith in God, who by faith we believe strengthens us to do all these things through Him.
It's for this reason that we'd both readily back ourselves to succeed and still remain humble after we have, well aware that everything we can ever do is because of Him.
This is the relationship between self confidence and faith as they both intersect at a point called humility.
Here, faith allows us to acknowledge God's role if we're to succeed and our total reliance on Him to be able to.
Where faith is lacking, self confidence becomes prideful arrogance and self reliance which is very much limiting since as humans a lot of things are outside our control.
■ The Relationship Between Self Confidence And Self Worth
How we see ourselves will play a key role in what we think we can do and how well we'd be willing to do it.
For instance, if a model feels ugly on the inside, no one can successfully convince them to walk the runway elegantly because somewhere deep within there's something that says the crowd is laughing in mockery, even if they're cheering.
How we see ourselves is more important than how others do, but it's still advisable to surround ourselves with people that see the best in us, so that through their positive self talk we can continue to build our confidence.
When we hang out with naysayers for so long, we may begin to doubt ourselves, having had negativity subconsciously imprinted into us repeatedly.
To have a healthy self worth is about seeing ourselves the same way God does; as worthy masterpieces capable of being refined continually for the purpose of good works.
This gives us the confidence to know that we're enough, never looking to be someone else other than the best version of ourselves.
■ The Relationship Between Self Confidence And Self Development
Practice gives room for improvement because by repetition we learn to do something better than when we first started.
In every journey towards achieving success the most important step is the next one but it all begins with that first one in the right direction.
This is why it's important to first identify what we really want to do with our lives and to remain consistent with it, so that overtime, our skills, experience and know-how can compound in that particular field.
The benefit of longevity is that gradually and steadily we get better at our craft, which gives us the confidence and readiness to take up new opportunities and responsibilities that we'd have normally shied away from in our early days.
Also, this extends to our daily living and lifestyle.
Self development allows us the confidence and calmness to think clearly in difficult situations, applying the lessons we learned from similar tough situations prior.
The more we learn and improve, we become better equipped to face life's challenges and this gives us the confidence to confront them squarely.
■ The Relationship Between Self Confidence And Self Love
When we're confident in our own skin we can go on to express ourselves freely without shame or self pity.
To love ourselves gives us the confidence to hold our heads high in any room having the quality to at least have meaningful conversations without feeling intimidated.
Many times this won't require us to be clever but to simply keep quiet and listen to the other person especially when we're not informed on the subject matter.
When we keep talking merely to get attention, we show that we lack the self confidence to exist without making ourselves the center of attraction or command respect without being loud.
■ The Relationship Between Self Confidence And Integrity
Honesty is a virtue of self confidence because it’s an act of cowardice to misrepresent reality for acceptance, validation and other benefits we may get from altering the truth.
This includes behaviours like refusing to share our honest opinions with our friends or loved ones because we don't want to upset them or avoiding difficult conversations when they offend us.
When we do this, we may overtime become resentful of them, never really expressing our grievances but remaining offended with them for not taking notice.
If this continues for too long, we could also find ourselves betraying them by actively or casually supporting plots that undermine them.
It is therefore better to find the self confidence to have those honest conversations pointing out things that should be improved for better relations going forward.
■ Impact Of Self Confidence On Peer Pressure
It's difficult to be under undue pressure to succeed when we understand that achieving some goals takes time regardless of our best efforts.
When we're focused on our self development and progress we'd hardly have time to notice what other people are doing.
Unless, we're looking to learn some things we can adapt to improve our own life without putting ourselves under the pressure of trying to replicate their own success.
Self confidence allows us to follow our hearts when everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon; choosing to do only things that resonate with our soul and bring us peace of mind.
Summary:
Every success starts from self belief, and only those who think they can do it, will be able to.
As believers, when we say “I can” it's simply an acknowledgment of our God given abilities to be everything we want to be according to his purpose.
