Rejection: Why I'm Not Enough
There's no good way to sell the right product to the wrong market.
Introduction:
Welcome my friend,
Whenever we're here, it shows just how much of a quick turnaround it is from one Friday to another.
Tick, tock, time goes on, without waiting for any of us to catch up; but do we really have to?
We're only under as much pressure as we put ourselves and the fact that death can happen at any time, only makes every breath of life worth much more; a precious gift to be cherished and appreciated.
When we live with all that fretting, we take away the beauty of life so that it's no longer a fun puzzle to be solved daily but an overwhelming task.
This is not God's design.
Being alive offers us the gift of hope, which is the faith that we're headed for a better place; a conviction that holds true everytime we refuse to give up.
It's on the basis of this conviction that we can live through: sickness, hunger, debt, or heartbreak and still stay solid buoyed by the expectation of better days ahead.
Here, we're enthusiastic and optimistic about the future having cast all our cares on our heavenly father that always comes through.
This is God's design.
It's therefore on that quick note that I welcome you to today's conversation my friend.
Now let's get on with it.
Discussion:
Of the other challenges a salesman would face, having to sell a product he doesn't believe in and having to sell a product to a market that doesn't need it, are two (2) of the most challenging.
Firstly, you can't convince someone else to use something you don't consider good enough for yourself unless you're intentionally being dishonest.
This is because for every time they ask a question about the product, your response would show these doubts and uncertainties about its reliability.
The second one is trying to sell something to someone who doesn't need it regardless of how much we believe in it ourselves.
For instance, trying to sell a stethoscope to a farmer.
No matter how relevant it may be to us, he doesn't expect it to improve his craft so he'd likely reject it.
■ The Meaning Of Rejection
To reject something is the opposite of accepting it.
It's to decline an offer, idea, person and so on for reasons that suit us.
As individuals, being on the receiving end of rejection is an unpleasant feeling that leaves us questioning ourselves as we begin to feel inadequate and unqualified.
Everytime we experience rejection our self esteem is crushed leaving us with feelings of insignificance and abandonment.
This is why it's difficult for most of us to overcome.
■ Types Of Rejection
Self rejection is the type of rejection where we feel we're not good enough because we doubt our own attributes and skills.
It's that feeling of unworthiness from not feeling physically attractive, smart enough, or not measuring up in finances or social class.
This is a real thing.
Like the salesman stuck with a product he doesn't believe in, we can sometimes feel undeserving and “unmarketable”, causing us to push others away.
This is an unfair and untrue assessment of ourselves.
Each of us is enough the way we are and once we accept this, we take the first step towards tapping into our limitless potentials having now recognized it.
Another type of rejection is the one from other people.
This is similar to trying to sell a product to someone that doesn't need it.
For instance, adults who became parents unprepared don't hide their displeasure and resentment towards the child because they feel it stood in the way of their plans.
This makes the child feel rejected having been made the scapegoat in a situation that wasn't any fault of theirs.
■ How To Handle Rejection
To grow up in an environment where the people we looked up to constantly talked down on us creates feelings of shame that stick with us long into adulthood.
This can lead us into an unhealthy quest to measure up, finding ourselves in the chase for fame, money, power and everything we think would give us any sense of self worth.
Yet none of these satisfies which is why we see so many unhappy people with huge accomplishments, successful careers and individual awards.
Until we start to see ourselves differently, it won't matter what we've done or how much others respect us, we'd always feel like we have a point to prove.
It's important to understand that the rejection of others doesn't mean we're not good enough, it just means that we're not what they want, which is fine.
Like the product a salesman is pushing to the wrong market it may just mean that we need to change our circle looking to connect more with like minds.
■ The Ultimate Acceptance
To have someone we've been married to over the years decide to walk away from us into the arms of another is a painful kind of rejection to experience.
To move from being your partner's favourite person to just another person or even an enemy in their books is a pain that cuts deep.
Truth is, whether we're the neglected child, disposed partner, or the “unsuccessful” friend that everyone has dissociated from, we're never really alone.
God is always there by our side extending his hands to fellowship with us.
This is the ultimate acceptance.
As perfect goods out of his factory, God sees us according to his ultimate purpose for us which is beyond our current circumstances.
This is why he never rejects us.
He knows that we're always worth much more and will become all that if we accept him into our lives.
God offers us second chances giving us the opportunity to bounce back from rejection having found love, peace, contentment and fulfillment in him.
When we refuse this offer, it becomes the ultimate rejection with eternal consequences as we miss out on his purpose for our lives.
Summary:
We're so beautiful.
We're masterpieces sculptured by the greatest artist of all, God; to show off his creativity.
When we see ourselves from this perspective we can appreciate our imperfections having realized that they're intentional designs that make us unique and draw us to our tribe.
God doesn't make any mistakes and if the sovereign ruler of the whole world thinks that we're awesome, who then can make us feel less?
Master Apprentice.
