The Responsibilities Of These Uncertain Times
As the missiles continue to fly around, these records of casualties aren't mere numbers but actual human beings, who like us were here yesterday.
Introduction:
Welcome my friend,
I'm glad that you're here to witness this conversation as we spare our thoughts for the victims of the ongoing Israel - Palestine war which seems to always intensify periodically over the years.
According to analytics, the combined total of Israelis and Palestinians that make up our own community is (1.3%); which is a little over one hundred and thirty members (130) of our thirteen thousand four hundred (13400) total members, who have now been directly affected physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and financially as the bombs continue to go off.
Some of them joined us just last week Friday but now can't due to the sad turnout of events and it's to them and the many other of their families and friends that we're dedicating today's edition of this weekly newsletter.
Discussion:
Like in all wars, there's a conflict of who's right and wrong, which leads to more division as individuals, groups, organisations or even governments of countries begin to throw the weight of their support to the side that appeals to their own values and interests.
For defense companies it's a time for more sales even as investors in such company's stocks experience an increase in their fortunes with the boost in market prices.
Then, there's the journalists and media houses covering events non-stop yet with an aim majorly driven by their own bias and positioned to drive financial benefits.
Yet in all these, there are children, women and men actually dying, losing their properties, their peace, and their dreams.
Those who now have to live in panic until there's a ceasefire.
For us, it leaves the moral responsibility to show our genuine support for them all as we choose humanity over race, colour, political inclinations and financial benefits.
■ Accepting The Responsibilities of These Times
Through our actions and inactions we can either show our support to all victims or make situations worse.
This can be seen in the real life effects of different social media posts showing support for one faction and the bad blood it's generated amongst supporters and opposition, such that it's led to other micro wars that have also brought about destruction of lives and properties in some other places all over the world.
Also wasting time, energy and the resources that can be pulled together to show support for the primary victims suddenly handicapped by all of these.
From this we can see that although we're not on ground, our conduct can go a long way in making sure things don't degenerate.
We're therefore encouraged to play the following roles:
▪︎ Pray:
We can intercede on behalf of those who are currently overwhelmed by their predicament that they can barely mutter the words to pray for themselves.
The surviving children traumatized by losing their parents and watching in pain as life in a flash changed from what they knew it to be.
We can pray for those that have now been setback a few years due to the loss of their records, properties and means of livelihood.
Most importantly we can pray for the souls that have passed on to the otherside to find eternal rest.
▪ Preach Peace:
This is not the time to make statements that incite violence but to rally around for peace, for the sake of everyone involved.
Hateful comments that insinuate superiority or inferiority attack the core of people's values and beliefs and would always steer rebellion which is why it's best to be wise and courteous in our choice of words and conduct.
We cannot pray with the upper lip and then instigate chaos with the lower one.
▪︎ Send Relief:
There are legitimate agencies raising relief funds to help victims and we can put words to action with our little donations if we can.
First responders and rescue teams on ground should have the financial responsibility of purchasing food, first aid and other materials lifted from their shoulders as we play our own roles from where we are.
This is an opportunity for us to pay it forward.
▪︎ Encourage Others:
Even if we don't have the resources to support victims we can encourage others to do so.
We can caution preachers of hate by enlightening them on the threat of such words in a very volatile time with emotions running high and tempers raging.
This is a time to encourage the peaceful resolution of things so that innocent civilians can go back to their normal lives.
Summary:
Our discussion today has been overtaken by events around the world as we show support to those who have found themselves in this sad situation of war and violence.
It's in times like this we're reminded of how quickly things can turn around in life and why we should live to cherish each moment.
We can spend time with family and friends whenever we can and intentionally show love wherever we are knowing that we could be gone at any time.
We should also develop empathy for one another as we learn to place humanity above whatever labels we've placed on ourselves that have created division and discrimination.
Peace!
