Time: What does it Say?

Everyone can read the clock, but do we see what it's asked us to do?

Introduction:

Welcome my friend!

Is it just me, or do you also feel the days have flown by?

Well, let's just say that it is what it is and we're truly grateful to have arrived at this point with it, even as we pray for the souls of those who've crossed on to the otherside.

Today's discussion on this Friday weekly newsletter is one that concerns every aspect of our lives as we look to understand the concept of time in more ways than just the repeated transitions from days to nights.

Here, we'll be looking at the actual value of each passing second regardless of if it's displayed on a gold clock in Buckingham Palace or on my less glamorous casio wristwatch.

Discussion:

If you've ever watched the clock hit 00:00 on your twenty-four hour (24H) clock you'd more likely grasp the feeling of a reset that each new day brings; yet not as much as you would if that day is the first day of a new year.

This is because we've attached so much more relevance to the start of the year, than a new month, then less likely a new week and little or none a new day.

"My new year resolution…", "Happy New Month" are both phrases we've used to show this significance.

Unfortunately, this approach to understanding time has left us acting in ways where we've arrived at our preferred 'milestone' ages with less achievements than we've envisaged.

What has happened here is that while we were waiting for the next year to come with all our dreams, we failed to recognise the impact of actually doing the daily work that compounds to make it a reality.

This is the significance of our time.

As the seconds run into minutes and progressively through hours; even to a lifetime, the quality of our lifestyle will always be dependent on how we've used this steady moving, irredeemable resource.

Making the Most of our Time:

It's impossible to get a grip of something without intentionally setting out to do so strategically. Although much more intangible, the same is applicable when we want to stay accountable to ourselves on how we're spending our most valuable resource; our time.

How do we get to the end of each day satisfied that we've given it a good shot?

The first one is by planning and goal setting.

We can't get to a destination without knowing where it is and having a clear road map on how to get there. This is what planning our lives and setting both long and short term goals does for us.

From this, we're able to know the amount of work that is required daily and to set out to achieve it without burnout.

The second one is by scheduling.

Truly, if planning is how we know what to do, scheduling is how we know when to do it. All successes come from staying disciplined to a workable routine by sticking to doing everything at the right time for it.

Scheduling helps us make good use of time because we're able to identify what aspect of our life suffers when we're using the time created for it in engaging in other activities.

How to take back our Time

Lost time can never be regained yet we can start from where we are and consciously decide to make the rest of our time here count.

In seeking to get back our time we're challenged to give it up for a course greater than ourselves. This is the path of our purpose.

Truly, many of our struggles and time wasting have come from running away from the responsibilities of the life we're equipped with in talent and abilities to live out; as we try out all the ways except the one that leads to our crown.

Restoring lost time therefore involves the spiritual walk of healing; as we lean back towards our true identity by reconnecting with the one who knows not just our present but how it aligns with what the future holds for us; our God.

The Gift of Time

It's not everyone of us that has the confidence that time is working in our favour; a distressing feeling that forms the basis of most of our anxiety and worries.

Actually, having the privilege of continuing to see each new day should be met with appreciation and optimism rather than gloom.

This is because the gift of time is the gift of life and is testament to the fact that there's still something out there for us.

Here, we're encouraged to tap into these gifts of love, faith and the hope that all of our dreams will one day come to pass.

Also in this package is healing, revelation and growth as we recover from past hurt and trauma, rediscover our true identity and inner voice, as well as outgrow poor habits and lifestyle; growing into self actualisation.

How to behave as we wait for our Time

When we're doing our best without the matching results to show for it, it's very easy to lose our heads, get frustrated and eventually give up.

This is a lack of faith in the one that holds the time.

As we get closer and build an intimate relationship with him, we learn to trust him absolutely through all our challenges knowing that they're just there to build the strength of our character and to prepare us for bigger and more rewarding responsibilities.

This means living with patience and dignity leaning on the confidence that time heals the pain of disappointment when we realize that the things we wanted most wouldn't have been good for us.

When our Time is Up

Whatever wastes our time is our enemy and should be avoided at all cost.

One day when our time here is done, and we've run our race, I hope we're remembered fondly for our acts of humanity, kindness and the courage to have loved others as ourselves.

Summary:

Each day gives us twenty-four hours and five minutes here and there, used in empty talk, sitting around and all other unproductive activities take away from it.

Let all of our work, learning, fun and every other activity in between be intentionally crafted out in a way that every passing time sees us do things that compound in the direction of the price; a fulfilled life.
