Reality Check: Taking Note of the 'Little Things'

When blessings abound it's easy to take them for granted until we experience the other side.

Introduction:

Welcome my friend,

I want to start by saying thank you for being a source of strength to me without which I wouldn't be here on this edition of this Friday weekly newsletter.

Truly, since the past few days I've been so unwell that I thought I wouldn't be able to make it to this discussion but here we are doing it, simply because you're here and I wouldn't want to keep you waiting without showing up.

However, because this isn't the right frame of mind to discuss "The Simple Path to True Fulfillment" as earlier agreed, we'll just have this brief one on some of the things the ordeal of the past days have pointed out.

Discussion:

Getting back to this work seat for the first time in two (2) days, I couldn't be more grateful to have done so, having walked past it a few times earlier today with absolutely no strength for anything in that regard.

Being able to sit here feels a lot more significant now, knowing that just a few hours ago I couldn't; despite how much I really wanted to and even more how much I have done so in the past.

This shows that things can change very quickly and when they do neither our desire for them to remain the same nor our track record will count for us.

This is why we must remain humble at all times and give the best we can to any role we've been privileged to play in our family, workplace and everywhere else.

The other side of it is the simple reality check of some priceless blessings that we take for granted just because they're intangible and can't be quantified in numbers like our money and all that material stuff.

Some of them are:

▪︎ Good Health

The privilege of being in a sound physical and mental state to show up to our responsibilities is one that is often lost in the many thoughts of stressing over the unrealized goals.

Here, the fact that if the body breaks down the goals do so with it, is overshadowed by the desires of wanting more and feelings of not doing or having enough; as we'd like to.

▪︎ Absence of Human and Natural Disasters

How many times have we woken up to news where folks have lost their properties or means of livelihood to floods, wildfire, and so on.

Yet some others have had their once safe city and country become a war zone where living has automatically been reduced to mere survival.

▪︎ People to Lean On

Having loving, caring, and supportive folks in our corner whether family or friends is such a blessing.

That shoulder to cry on, that pat on the back to keep going, those encouraging words, and those helping hands are oftentimes overlooked yet they hold enormous value.

▪︎ God

The blessing of having a God we can absolutely count on to share in our burdens, care for, talk to and love us always is a privilege those who don't believe in him can't understand.

This is why through ill health, heartbreak, mourning and all other painful circumstances we're able to remain faithful knowing that grounded in him we'd always come out better.

Also, it's this firm trust in him that allows us to respond rightly by committing ourselves to him in prayer and seeking his purpose rather than cursing him and walking away; maybe into more freedom to do our will and satisfy our pleasures but definitely away from peace of mind.

Summary:

The insatiable nature of man is why we'll always look for more, even when there's so much to be grateful for.

The many things we take for granted are blessings many people no longer have the privilege to enjoy and for them we send our prayers.

In rounding this one up, I'd like to say that having lost a few pounds in weight and having been really weak up until when I got to writing this, not showing up would have been the easier thing to do.

…but how can I keep you waiting, my friend?
