A Wise Decision: The call to play our role.

Many times the right thing to do and the most difficult one are the same. So, where do we find the courage, then the discipline to dare?

Introduction:

Welcome my friend!

Today I greet you with a warm embrace, firstly, to express my delight to be here with you for this edition of this Friday weekly newsletter; and secondly to draw strength from you as I'm a bit unwell.

This conversation will be very brief as I have to take the time out to get some rest, yet I hope that there's something in it for us that sticks right there in our minds and influences each of our very steps purposefully.

At least, if there's one thing we can remember this discussion for, our featured story is one that can come to mind very easily.

In it a monkey strays away from the woods to the river nearby to make friends with fishes. It lived with them the rest of its life struggling to move, eat and survive because although it had improved its swimming skills from being there over the years, it never really felt as successful and as thriving as it would, if it were climbing trees through the woods.

In this, we can find some reasons that suggest that this monkey didn't take a decision that could have seen it live its designed life and one that would have seen it play its correct role in the order of life.

Can we therefore say that it hasn't taken a wise decision?

Discussion:

From what we've seen we can say that living through struggle is one of the consequences of adapting a life, career path or lifestyle that's not in alignment with our purpose.

Like the fish and the monkey, even as friends we're all skilled and equipped differently and must understand this in order to lean towards our strengths and tap into our greatest potential.

This is a wise decision.

Characteristics of a Wise Decision

The struggle to make a sound judgement is one that we're confronted with each day and how successfully we do so is what determines the quality of our reality.

When faced with series of choices we should always remind ourselves that the wise decision will have the following attributes:

▪︎Ease

▪︎Peace of mind

▪︎Self trust

▪︎Self love

▪︎Growth

Let's discuss each one in detail.

▪︎Ease:

Many times when we struggle to fit in, it's because we can't see that standing out will be easier for us.

Here, if we find the courage to take the route that aligns with our purpose we live a life we already have the innate abilities for.

How well the monkey would have done living in the woods quickly comes to mind.

▪︎Peace of mind:

This is arguably the most satisfying attribute of making wise decisions. When faced with the task of choosing which direction to go, making the right choice will bring us peace of mind because we just have this assurance that even through the challenges, it'll eventually work out.

▪︎Self Trust:

Seeing our decision pay off builds our self confidence. We begin to appreciate our superpower of creating or reinventing ourselves by simply adapting the behaviours and habits of that person we want to be.

This mindset allows us to dream big because we realise that we can become anything we set our minds to; it's just about believing and going all out for it.

▪︎Self Love:

With self confidence comes self love. As we play our own role here in life, we begin to appreciate ourselves more. When we acknowledge the significance of the simple roles we play in our homes and workplaces we begin to see how much we matter and how hiding from these responsibilities affects everyone.

▪︎Growth:

The ultimate reward of aligning with our purpose is self actualisation. In embracing our true self we make the conscious decision to intentionally improve through life, working hard enough to earn every new step in the journey.

Here, all our struggles add up and compound over time as each little forward step eventually brings us to our destination.

Obstacles to Making a Wise Decision

The quality of our mind will show in the kind of thoughts that flows in it. It's these thoughts that form our values, ideologies and determines our ability to make sound judgement.

For these reasons, factors that stand in the way everytime we want to make good decisions are the limiting factors of fear and ignorance.

When we're afraid, our decision making mostly lacks rationality and will always lean towards the "no risk" choice; yet there's no reward without the risk of going all in to chase our dreams.

Ignorance on the otherhand, refers to our lack of self awareness. Many times we live through life without getting a grip of it because we don't understand how much abilities we have when we connect to the source of all wisdom; God.

Here, we make unhealthy choices because we fail to develop and seek an intimate relationship with the one who gives us the spirit of discernment.

▪︎Summary:

Now that we've seen that the ultimate decision is to play our role here on earth by living the life of our purpose, we're advised to take each little decision in such a way that it aligns with the big picture.

Thanks for hanging out with me as it's been a struggle doing this through these lines; as I feel unwell. However, the thought of getting to this happy ending with you, kept me going and I'm glad we've now done that.
