Good Work

We're likely more inspired to give our best when we love who we're working for.

Introduction:

Welcome my friend,

I'm thrilled to connect with you today, just like always!

Cheers to a good weekend!

For some of us, it’s a chance to unwind, recharge, and enjoy quality time with family and friends.

For others, it marks the start of your critical work as you keep essential services running smoothly.

Indeed, you heroes, prioritizing others’ needs, deserve this heartfelt recognition for your dedication.

Then, to everyone else, our roles are equally vital, with each of us contributing to a balanced and thriving society.

So, let's keep it up!

This sets the stage for our conversation today, as we explore the importance of giving our best in the job we do.

Discussion:

There's a common saying that your colleagues are not your friends which holds true because we're all just there to do our jobs.

This is what it means to be professional.

However, a tense or uneasy workplace, where people feel guarded and hesitant to take risks, can hinder creativity and innovation.

Here, the fear of stepping outside the norm creates a cautious environment that stifles bold ideas.

Conversely, when colleagues share a strong bond and mutual support, it fosters a sense of appreciation and encouragement.

This positive dynamic inspires individuals to excel, go the extra mile, and contribute meaningfully to the team, because they feel like they're a core part of it.

This connection is vital in influencing the quality of our output which is what makes having a friendly work space a massive advantage.

■ Improving The Workplace

Having recognized the value of a positive work environment, it’s essential to identify factors that contribute to our comfort in the workplace.

▪︎ Contentment

The conviction that we're in the right job makes us pour our hearts into it because there's nothing else we'd rather do.

When we dislike our work, we tend to criticize everything about our workplace, feeling it hinders us from our dream job.

Yet, are we truly skilled enough for that ideal role?

If so, why aren’t we there yet?

The reality is, every job offers valuable lessons and growth opportunities.

By embracing our current role, we gain experience that can qualify us for, or even help us excel in, our dream job.

However, if we constantly complain and perform poorly, we squander what should have been a window for personal and professional development.

▪︎ Communication

It's difficult for people to have an understanding in the workplace when colleagues barely speak to each other.

Where there's poor communication, people rely on assumptions, treating their own perspectives as truth without considering others' viewpoints to uncover the reality.

This can cause minor issues to escalate into conflicts, creating a tense work environment.

Effective communication bridges the gap between perceptions and reality, helping us understand why colleagues behave or work in certain ways.

By fostering better communication, we can embrace our differences, complement each other, and build stronger relationships rather than letting those differences divide us.

▪︎ Cooperation

Rebellion disrupts workplace harmony as team members pull in opposing directions, hindering collective progress.

Often, pride fuels rebellion, as clashing egos prevent individuals from embracing their roles.

It's also for this reason that a person would reject a superior idea solely because they feel threatened by the person it's come from.

Here, despite their full awareness of its merits, they proceed to undermine it, and in doing so derail the shared objective, just to assert dominance.

This isn't right.

Similarly, when individuals feel oppressed or victimized, rebellion often follows, as they push back to express their displeasures; and as with the first case, the common goal still suffers as a result.

▪︎ Competence

When we're good at our job we're easier to work with.

When we work together to create something extraordinary, surmounting all challenges along the way, we establish a strong bond that emerges only from triumphing against all odds.

In contrast, incompetence invites frequent caution our way as we're constantly being called out for doing a poor job; and if we're not wise enough, we begin to see it as a personal attack instead of working to improve ourselves.

■ How We Should Do Our Work

When we show up to do our job, we should seek to do so;

▪︎ Enthusiastically

Finding joy in our work comes from discovering its deeper purpose beyond just earning a paycheck.

By providing services or creating products, we address others' needs, becoming a vital solution.

This is the true value of our efforts.

Recognizing how others rely on us fosters gratitude for the opportunity to serve them, giving us something to anticipate with enthusiasm.

When we truly value our work, we approach it with eagerness and excitement.

▪︎ Excellently

Mediocrity limits our potential, causing us to achieve and become less than we’re capable of.

By giving our all, we challenge ourselves to reach our fullest potential.

This effort increases our value, enhancing our contributions to our team and, ultimately, to society at large.

Improving at what we do is an ongoing journey, achieved by consistently showing up and putting in the effort over time.

This makes excellence a learned behavior, something we can develop through dedicated practice.

Most significantly, when we excel in our current roles, we earn recommendations for higher positions and greater opportunities.

▪︎ Expectantly

Since our pay reflects the work we do, it’s only right to perform in a way that earns it.

When we’re confident in our contributions, we can demand compensation that matches our perceived value and expect it to be met.

This confidence also applies to other rewards for our hard work.

So that we approach our tasks with purpose, knowing that each effort moves us closer to our goals

■ The Perfect Work

We're all talented differently which makes the perfect job the one where our abilities are most utilized.

When our work aligns with our purpose, we fulfill our God given roles, contributing to society as we are called to.

More than money, we perform best when our efforts positively influence others' lives.

Which makes human capital development vital, as we create a ripple effect, and foster a chain of individuals uplifting each other to reach their highest potentials.

This is why we must deliberately share our knowledge with others, ensuring it doesn't end with us when we're unavailable, retired, or gone.

The Motivation Behind Our Work

We're likely more inspired to give our best when we love who we're working for.

Which is why as believers we're reminded that regardless of the job we do, we're ultimately working for God.

This mindset shift gives us better motivation.

Here, our diligence stems from our desire to please God, not just man.

It also makes us even more resilient and patient, amidst workplace oppression, knowing that our reward comes from God.

This is especially true when this oppression is due to our faith and refusal to engage in actions against our beliefs.

Most importantly, working as unto God ensures that our hopes don't end in disappointment, as He will surely elevate us at the proper time; when we’ve demonstrated readiness to take on the responsibilities that come with new opportunities.

Summary

The privilege of having work to do isn't something everyone possesses due to sickness, disability and other such factors.

Which is why laziness is a sin.

God has given us all these abilities and He requires us to put them to good use, making the world around us a better place, even as we get paid for doing so.

This is how we earn a living, from our very hands that He's blessed.
