Consistency: Expressing Desire For What We Want.

Persistently knocking on that door may not wake the person sleeping, but it keeps you at the door long enough for them to wake up on their own.

Introduction:

Welcome my friend,

Today's conversation is likely to be very short, but that's not because I'm trying to avoid spending time with you or anything of the sort.

Life sometimes throws unexpected things our way that limit how much time I can spend here.

However, because I prioritize you, and enjoy this little time that we spend together, I'll still be here before anything else, even if not as much as I may want to, on the day.

How are you doing?

I believe you’re doing well, or at least giving it your best effort, and honestly, that effort is what truly matters.

It's good to be back here with you, now let's get on with the day's conversation.

Discussion:

Growing up, we had a neighbor who lived with her niece, a girl known for sleeping incredibly deeply.

One day, the aunt came home and knocked on the door for nearly two hours.

She banged so loudly and persistently that neighbors came out to help, some even fearing the worst had happened inside.

Worried, they began making plans to force their way in and check what was going on.

That’s exactly when the niece finally woke up.

She casually opened the door, completely surprised to see so many people gathered outside.

Crazy story, right?

Yet today, we’re going to draw a valuable lesson from it, or simply refresh our minds, on the power of consistency, seeing it as a genuine expression of our desire for what we truly want.

Consistency - A Show Of Desire

The reason the woman was knocking on the door was because she wanted her niece to grant her access into their home.

So even though no one was opening, she continued knocking, believing the noise would eventually wake her niece from her deep sleep.

Here, the difference between her and a visitor is that she didn't walk away.

Someone else would have simply decided to come back later.

This means that consistency is a trait that shows desire, as we express how much we want something by how much we keep trying, showing up and putting in all the effort to get it.

It's about persistence, remaining right there at the door until it eventually opens, giving meaning to all the work done standing there all that long.

Indeed, this is what happens when we have no other option than to stand on a particular door until it's opened for us.

Unlike a visitor that can simply go back to their own home.

Which goes to show that it's only desire that makes us intensify our efforts, showing up better in order to access this door that's been closed on us.

In its absence, we simply give up, walking away to face our other options.

Consistency - The Reward Of Remaining On The Door

While the noise from her knocking didn’t wake up her niece, it certainly attracted others to come and join her.

They added their own efforts to hers, making the task much easier than it would have been alone.

When we consistently show up, we position ourselves to receive the help we need.

This support makes the journey far lighter than when we first began, no longer doing it tired and lonely, without anyone by our side.

Indeed, help multiplies effort and greatly improves our chances of opening the door.

More hands create more noise, enough noise, as they say, to wake the dead.

Yet sometimes even that combined effort is not enough, just as we saw in the story.

The door can still remain closed despite everyone’s best attempts.

This shows us that the ultimate reward of consistency isn’t even the help we attract along the way, because sometimes, even that falls short.

So that we can say that;

Persistently knocking on that door may not wake the person sleeping, but it keeps you at the door long enough for them to wake up on their own.

Consistency - The Challenge Of Remaining On That Door

The only way you’ll keep knocking on a door for two hours, long enough for the person inside to wake up on their own, is if you’re convinced they’re actually there.

This is why uncertainty remains one of the greatest challenges to staying consistent.

The truth is, it takes real courage to keep investing effort into something when you don’t know whether it will eventually be worth it.

Indeed, when we fear that things might not work out, we start viewing additional effort as a waste of our limited time and resources.

So we choose instead to cut our losses and move on.

Ironically, this is how we give up on the very thing that'll eventually give us the rewards we seek: consistency.

As is often the case, the door only opens for those who continue knocking regardless.

The rest will keep missing out on what they wanted to access behind that door, simply because they refused to put in any further effort.

Consistency - What It Takes To Remain On That Door

It’s not certainty we need, but conviction, that deep, strong confidence that all our efforts will eventually pay off.

This conviction is what makes true persistence possible.

It empowers us to keep pushing forward even when our efforts haven't yet produced anything tangible.

Here, it helps to consciously acknowledge the progress we’ve already made.

Truth is, even though the door is still locked, we're no longer where we started.

We now have the strength, support, and resourcefulness of the community around us, people willing to join in and even explore other ways to open the door.

Which also shows us that progress doesn’t always come in the exact form we imagined.

Yet, as long as it aligns with the bigger picture, it's more than enough.

Summary:

The divine perspective on consistency is captured in this powerful truth:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Even God encourages us to actively go after what we want, to keep asking, seeking, and knocking until we receive it.

When we truly desire something, we demonstrate that desire through our commitment: by giving our best, making the necessary sacrifices, and showing up consistently.

This will always pay off in the end, and I hope we remain steadfast long enough for that reward to come to us.

Consistency is what separates those who merely want something from those who are truly deserving of it.

I hope we prove ourselves worthy by showing up reliably, time after time.

I have to go now, my friend.

See you next week.

Until then, make sure you don't let any deep sleeper lock you out of your home.

Cheers.
