A Reliable Indicator
To make the choice between the heart and head can be a struggle, but there's something that signals when we're on the right path.
Introduction:
Welcome my friend,
Cheers to a beautiful weekend!
Hopefully, our time here adds more bright colors to it.
Now, let's dive straight into today's conversation.
Discussion:
When we refer to the head and heart in decision making, we’re really just exploring how we balance emotions and logic to arrive at our choices.
Truth is, our lives are molded by the actions we take and the decisions we make, meaning that certain wrong decisions can carry significant consequences, potentially altering our entire trajectory.
Often, we’re fully aware of the weight of these choices so we're scared, afraid that we might make the wrong call.
This is a normal and common experience, making today’s conversation meaningful for all of us as we seek to better understand how to confidently recognize the right choice.
So that we can move forward with our decisions courageously.
■ What The Heart Wants
Our heart embodies our emotional core, pulsing with passion and driven by love.
It’s the optimistic force within us: trusting, hopeful, and always anticipating the best possible outcome.
This is the heart’s strength, fueling our courage to chase our dreams with unwavering belief.
Here, we dive in fully, confident that everything will unfold as we envision.
Or does it?
The heart’s weakness lies in its tendency to be blinded by this fervor and optimism, often overlooking warning signs that we’re on the wrong path.
This can lead to serious consequences.
Too often, we ignore clear red flags, clinging to situations we know are unhealthy because of fleeting pleasures, benefits, or sentimental attachments.
Despite knowing better, we persist, hoping for change in circumstances that clearly offer no evidence to support it.
In doing so, the heart leads us to disappointment, stung by unmet expectations.
Consequently, this betrayal erodes our trust in its guidance, pushing us to lean towards the cautions of our head instead.
■ What The Head Wants
After the pain of following our emotions, we shift towards logic.
This is the part of us that normally evaluates situations objectively, viewing the world through an unbiased lens.
However, since scarred by past heartbreaks, our logic somehow becomes tinged with fear, aiming to shield us from more hurt.
This becomes a flaw, as our guardedness makes us overly cautious, now reluctant to trust others even when it's the only way to move forward together.
Here, our head's instinct to protect us from harm stifles our willingness to take the risks necessary for our growth.
This is a hindrance; since we rather seek to remain with what's comfortable, afraid of the downside of an opportunity, when we could be excited for its possibilities.
All of these leaves us wondering: how then do we truly know when we’re making the right choice?
■ Peace Of Mind - A Reliable Indicator
The struggle to choose between emotion and logic is what makes certain life changing decisions difficult.
Yet, this very disharmony serves as a signal that we’re not on the right path.
In truth, the heart and head both belong to the same person and typically yearns for the same outcome.
So, if we’re wrestling with doubt, it’s already a sign that we haven't made the right decision.
When the heart and head are in one piece, we experience peace of mind, a feeling that is wholesome and complete.
In this state, fear and uncertainty fade, leaving us fully at ease with our choice.
This alignment is the reliable indicator that we’ve chosen correctly.
■ Learning To Make The Right Choice
Wisdom is the discernment to make the right decisions, following the path that yields the best results.
As believers, outside of emotions and logic, we have the benefit of a third perspective called faith.
Here, this simply refers to God's viewpoint on the situation and it gives us a deeper insight on the subject matter.
However, quite sadly this isn't available to everyone, only those that believe.
To know God's viewpoint is to first know Him, how He operates and what He does.
This knowledge enables us to confidently follow His guidance, even when it defies conventional thinking; trusting that He will not lead us astray.
Faith begins with trusting God in specific matters, allowing us to recognize His responses and gradually build our confidence in Him from how well He responded.
This growing trust empowers us to make bold decisions, assured of His unwavering support.
Once we see how God works in our lives, helping us to make the right decisions every time we ask, we become more eager to seek His guidance going forward.
■ Making A Comeback From Poor Choices
The fact that we've made a poor choice doesn't mean we're stuck, we can always choose to pivot.
When we're confronted with more information, wisdom calls us to adjust our course, as true lasting change is the sincerest form of apology we can offer ourselves.
While some circumstances are indeed irreversible, we can still find purpose in them when we use our experiences to guide others, preventing them from repeating our mistakes.
This transforms our suffering into something meaningful.
Indeed, it’s never too late to change direction if we believe a situation can still be salvaged.
Which is even harder after investing significant effort, energy, or other such resources.
Yet, continuing to pour ourselves into a flawed path won’t make it right.
Summary:
Sometimes the burden of decision making can be overwhelming because we're scared of the steep consequences of making the wrong call.
When our heart and head are in conflict it's usually a sign that we're yet to make the right decision.
We'll know we finally have, when we feel this peace within us, bringing a satisfying ease that feels just right.
